Programs and Curriculum

Vidyarambam believes that every student is a success, and to make this a reality it offers support courses to aid in their journey towards literacy. Accordingly, it lends a helping hand to children already in school (pre-primary to class V), but weak in basics like languages - both English and Tamil, and Mathematics.

There are SIX programmes that are currently being conducted by Vidyarambam:

Pre-Primary (Balwadi) - Vidyarambam introduces children between 3 and 6 years of age, to language and numeracy. Social Skills are imparted too.

Support Course (Junior) - At this level, Vidyarambam works at further improving language skills in Tamil and English reading abilities and adds to the basic mathematical skills of the students of classes II & III.

Support Course (Senior) - This is aimed at classes IV and V. Besides languages and Mathematics, students are also assisted in the curriculum they deal with in school. Special emphasis is placed on English grammar and language skills.

Easy Learning English - Easy Learning English is for students of classes VI, VII and VIII. There is a premium on English in India today, and Vidyarambam works towards ensuring that the rural children do not get left behind. Special textbooks have been designed which gives the students a feel for diction and grammar, thereby giving them a welcome edge.

Children Library - More than 250 children's storybooks are available at each centre, opening up a world of imagination and creativity to the youngsters.

Mobile Toy Library - About 250 toys and games travel in a van from village to village. Children are encouraged to play with these for up to 2 hours. This is a boon for the little ones who do not have access to such play material.

Every village that Vidyarambam functions in will have:

Pre-Primary (Balwadi) for children between 3 and 6 years of age
Support Course (Junior) for Class II and III of 10 months duration
Support Course (Senior) for Class IV and V of 10 months duration
A library consisting of more than 250 children's story books
A Village Development Group (VDG) to monitor Vidyarambam operations in that village

It is our aim that every child in a village that has a Vidyarambam centre will attend school.
