The need for learning the global language English is growing day by day. The rural children have plenty of difficulties in learning foreign languages. Vidyarambam has taken up earnestly to teach rural students to read English fluently.

Isai Ambalam School in Pondicherry have put in efforts to identify and classify the phonemes for the letters of English alphabet. They train teachers who can in turn teach the phonics to the rural children.

Before teaching the graphemes, the phonemes of the alphabet are taught to our children. They are grasping the sounds easily and apply it to the new words to learn the pronunciation. A method of associating an action with the phonemes of the letter the sound 'da' 'da', resembles the phonic of the letter 'd'.

Series of books titled as 'Easy Learning English' are being compiled by a team of volunteers from Vidyarambam with the support of Isai Ambalam school staff. In the step 1 book, about 44 main Phonemes of the English language are described with action pictures and sample words. Alternative graphemes for main phonemes are shown with sample spellings. The blending process and a few games for children to catch the phonemes faster are described. The book also carries list of Homophones, vocabulary of about 2000 words and simple conversation models.

The Step 2 and Step 3 books carry more of high level words and theme wise information suitable for students of Class 5 and above. The Step 4 book is an Activity book.

Mini dictionaries have been developed in 3 parts based on Present, Past and Future tenses. All the Step 1 to 4 and Mini dictionaries 3 parts are being given to all children taking ELE course.

We believe that these will be of use as a guide for those who wish to learn / teach to read English language easily using phonics.
