The much awaited EPC finals result...
The English Proficiency Contest finals for the 379 students who qualified in the prelims was held on March 28th 2014. After two rounds of evaluation, first at the district level and then by a high level committee, here is what we have got:

Congratulations to all the participants and the prize winners!
. All 379 students have received a set of English books for their summer reading.
. All students will alsoreceive a Vidyarambamwatch and a certificate of appreciation.
. Cash prizes and books from Pratham await all students who have got grades A and A+.
. The winners also got to become teachers this summer! The 9th grade winners got to teach the 5th graders in their villages for 2 weeks how to read English words using phonemes!
The success of the summer program where we introduced phonemes to V STD students has encouraged us to take the reading through phonemes program to a larger group of students. We will soon be introducing this as a full-fledged program.
All this and more will be part of the next big event in Vidyarambam - the Annual Meet to be held on June 21st and 22ndin Chennai. The EPC toppers and the best performers of the year will receive their awards.
View GalleryENGLISH THRO PHONEMES STUDENTS TEACH STUDENTS PILOT PROGRAM FOR TWO WEEKS
This summer across five districts of Tamil Nadu, 5th graders in select government schools were part of an exciting reading program conducted by Vidyarambam. And what is more - this 2 week unique summer program was conducted by 9th graders who were the winners in the English Proficiency Contest conducted by Vidyarambam Trust!
These 9th grade toppers (about 71 students) were chosen to be the "teachers" for a period of 2 weeks. We called them "Vidyarambam Trust Young Teachers" (VTYT)! They initiated the little ones in Grade V into the "World of English" - alphabet, their symbols and sounds, blending the sounds to read words and some basic vocabulary in a play-way method.
This strategy designed and delivered by Vidyarambam Trust, has captured the imagination of the school principals, and excited the winning 9th graders as they got to not only impart their knowledge in English but also motivate their juniors through this program!!
Vidyarambamhas rewarded these young tutors with a stipend - a way to build confidence and leadership skills in the real world We have received fantastic feedback on this pilot program from all the districts!

NOTE: Seventy-one (71) Vidyarambam Trust Young Teachers (VTYT) took 10 sessions of ELE classes for 679 STD V Students in 2 weeks from different Govt. Primary schools in 5 districts. Grade 'C' which denotes 'below pass mark' is only 6% of the total # of students who joyfully took the Test at the end of the course.Being summer holidays, some parents took away many children in the middle of the Term of 2 weeks to visit their relatives
